Bardahl Concentrated Gear Oil Additive is a concentrated gear oil additive for use in gearboxes and rear axles. It reduces friction and wear, thereby lowering the unit's temperature. This results in more efficient gearbox operation and a significant reduction in maintenance and repair costs, not to mention fuel savings.

The problem: Gearboxes and rear axles in passenger cars and trucks are often subjected to heavy loads at very high speeds, causing the increasingly hot oil to foam. This heat and foaming reduce the oil's lubricating capacity. This reduced lubricity automatically leads to increased friction and therefore wear. Wear and metal fatigue reduce the lifespan of the gears and increase energy consumption. Moreover, the resulting gum and varnish deposits will adversely affect the proper functioning of the gear transmission.

How it works: Bardahl Gear Oil Additive prevents these types of problems. A special anti-foam additive prevents foaming and ensures that the gear oil lubricates effectively even at high speeds. Bardahl's "polar attraction formula" removes old deposits and forms a lubricating film that can withstand pressures and temperatures many times higher than those of conventional gearbox oils. There is a group of gear reductions where wear is very critical, because the contact between the meshing gear profiles and the load are comparable to those in a hypoid transmission. Bardahl Concentrated Gear Oil is ideally suited for these gearboxes and transmissions. Worm gear reductions form a separate group among gear transmissions. Lubrication of the surfaces between the gear teeth and the worm is one of the biggest challenges. A distinction is made between transmissions with an overhead worm and one with an overhead worm. It is especially transmissions with an overhead worm that require a relatively thin oil to prevent the significant heat buildup caused by the churning action of the oil. Besides the correct viscosity, good oxidation stability also plays a key role here. For transmissions with an overhead worm gear, an oil with a higher viscosity is usually the best choice. Bardahl Concentrated Gear Oil Additive also ensures good oxidation stability and excellent high-pressure properties here. In hypoid transmissions, sliding speeds occur both lateral and longitudinal between the pinion and crown gear teeth. This can cause the oil film to completely break in places, resulting in significant heat buildup.

The extremely heavy loads in this type of transmission cause metallic contact between the tooth flanks. The very high temperature and pressure cause the tooth flanks to weld together in places and then separate again. This results in severe damage to the gears. The high concentration of Bardahl ingredients in this product prevents the lubricating film from breaking. This is in contrast to standard gear oils, which use EP additives based on phosphorus and sulfur compounds, the major disadvantage of which is the pitting of the metal surface.
