Bardahl Engine Stop Leak is a product added to engine oil to stop or at least significantly reduce oil leakage from improperly sealing gaskets or rings. It is miscible with all types of engine oil and restores the flexibility of both synthetic and natural rubber gaskets. It can also be used preventatively to prevent future oil leaks. This product also contains ingredients to remove deposits from valves and piston rings, thus ensuring increased engine performance and reduced oil consumption. A widely accepted test to measure gasket expansion showed that Bardahl Engine Stop Leak expands gaskets from 15% to 70% in one week, without cracking or significantly softening. The problem: Rubber gaskets, as used in modern car engines, tend to shrink, dry out, and lose their flexibility, resulting in oil loss. Deposits that form on valves and piston rings cause reduced performance, lower compression, and increased oil consumption.

Tests: Various tests have shown that when Bardahl Engine Stop Leak is added to engine oil, the gaskets, depending on the material, expand by 15% to 70%. The test procedure is as follows: the various gasket materials are immersed in a premium engine oil. The material then remains in this oil for 168 hours at a temperature of 150°C (300°F). The material is then examined to determine whether it has undergone any changes. The test procedure is then repeated, but with the addition of Bardahl Engine Stop Leak. The combination of cleaning, dispersing, and precipitate-dissolving ingredients loosens stuck piston rings, cleans valves, and reduces valve lift noise. The dissolved precipitates are then held in suspension. This action improves the sealing of piston rings and valves, thus reducing oil consumption.
